For lightweight or slippery fabrics, it is recommended to place a thin interfacing or water-soluble film underneath the fabric to enhance stability and prevent distortion during sewing.
Before starting the machine, confirm that the appropriate presser foot matching the selected buttonhole shape (straight end or round end) and size is installed. The machine will then automatically complete the buttonhole sewing process: stitching one bartack side first, then the opposite side, and finally reinforcing both ends. After sewing is complete, use a sharp seam ripper or small scissors to carefully cut along the longitudinal center line of the buttonhole, taking care not to cut the stitching threads. Check that the overcast stitches fully enclose the raw edges of the cut and ensure the buttonhole opens and closes smoothly without resistance. This precise procedure lays a solid foundation for subsequent adjustment and troubleshooting.
