Common Troubleshooting Strategies for Buttonhole Sewing Machines

2026 03/27

During the daily operation of a buttonhole sewing machine, users often encounter issues such as frequent thread breakage, bobbin oil leakage, fabric puckering, or uneven stitches.

To address thread breakage, first check the upper thread tension adjustment device to ensure proper tension, and adjust the needle bar height to the standard position to avoid excessive friction that may cause the thread to snap.

Bobbin oil leakage can be quickly resolved by cleaning the bobbin case and replacing the sealing ring, preventing oil stains from contaminating the stitches.

If fabric puckering occurs, adjust the presser foot pressure and synchronize it with the feed dog movement to maintain fabric smoothness. In cases of fabric jamming, immediately stop the machine and manually remove the fabric to prevent damage to machine components.

Uneven stitches are often caused by improper stitch length or stitch density settings. Parameters should be optimized according to the button diameter. For round-end buttonholes, loose thread ends can be concealed using a backstitch method to integrate them into the fabric, while raw edge finishing is recommended to be handled with overcasting techniques to improve appearance.

When working with elastic fabrics or thick woolen materials, replace the needle plate as necessary and adjust stitch density to accommodate the specific characteristics of these special materials.
