How to Adjust the Stitch of a Pattern Sewing Machine

2025 03/20

Adjusting the stitch of a pattern sewing machine can be done through the following settings:

1.Adjusting the Stitch Length

Locate the "stitch length adjustment" knob or button on the machine panel (usually labeled as "Stitch Length").

Turn clockwise to increase the stitch length and counterclockwise to decrease it.

Generally, a stitch length of 2.5mm-3.5mm is suitable for regular sewing, while a shorter stitch length (1mm-2.5mm) is recommended for fine patterns such as embroidery or decorative stitching.

2.Adjusting the Stitch Width

Modern pattern sewing machines support stitch width adjustment (usually labeled as "Stitch Width").

Increasing the width makes the pattern more prominent, while reducing it is suitable for delicate pattern sewing.

For zigzag or decorative patterns, a width of 3mm-6mm is generally recommended.

3.Selecting Pattern Stitches

The machine is usually equipped with multiple pattern stitches (such as zigzag, wave, and decorative edges).

Select the desired pattern by turning the pattern selection knob or using the electronic screen.

Complex patterns may require specific presser feet to ensure smooth sewing.

4.Adjusting the Thread Tension

The upper and lower thread tensions should be balanced to prevent loose or tight stitches.

The thread tension knob (usually labeled as "Tension") typically ranges from 1-9, with 3-5 recommended for pattern sewing.

5.Using the Appropriate Presser Foot

A standard presser foot is suitable for straight stitches, while pattern sewing may require a transparent presser foot or a specialized pattern presser foot.

Some patterns require a specific feed mechanism, such as the drop feed function.

6.Using the Right Fabric and Needle

Thin and delicate fabrics should be sewn with a size 9-11 needle, while heavier fabrics require a size 14-18 needle.

For pattern sewing, ballpoint needles or micro needles are recommended to reduce fabric pulling.

7.Testing and Adjustments

Test different stitch settings on scrap fabric and fine-tune them before proceeding with the actual sewing.
